How I Spent My Shakespeare Vacation

The site of the Globe, facing back toward the site of the Rose. The Rose is under the bridge. The New Globe is roughly behind the big office building.

The "play howse" below is the Rose. The Globe was built across the street and slightly to the east. "The Bear howse" is very roughly where the New Globe is now.

The corner we're looking at in the right-hand picture is the one marked with an X on the map. We're looking west, back down the street toward the Rose, and the bridge is on the curve. Amazing how the streets stay more or less the same for century after century. next
