Shakespeare in the original...

Shakespeare has been translated into almost every human language. And now, into some others...

Which reminds me of a story, told with some glee by William Alfred, late professor of English literature at Harvard. He was in South Africa, and, as a visiting dignitary, he was taken to a special performance of Hamlet in Afrikaans. He was doing fine until the ghost made its appearance. "Hamlet, I am thy father's spirit," it intoned--which came out in Afrikaans:

"Hamlet! Ik bin dein Papas Spuk!"
